Originating from French folklore, Gargoyles are night creatures made of stone who are said to come to life when the sun goes down. They were traditionally meant to ward off evil and protect medieval castles, just like scarecrows.
Deadlock, being a game from a period with abundant Gothic architecture, is the perfect setting for gargoyles, especially in the middle of so many other supernatural and horror tropes, already running amok in the streets of the Cursed Apple.
In fact, one of these gargoyles is also taking part in the patron summoning ritual. Meet Ivy, the gargoyle who got reanimated to life in order to protect the Arroyo family from the criminal organization named the Mendoza syndicate.
Ivy was adopted by the Arroyos, and she vowed to dismantle the syndicate from causing further harm to the lives of innocents. Other rival gangs, such as the Seventh Moon, appreciate her for this. Ironically, this piece of information is revealed through one of her interactions if she gets killed by Yamato.
Ivy has a lot of wishes she wants to ask of the patrons
Ivy’s wish, if she is successful in completing the ritual, is to make sure that the Arroyos and the Spanish Harlem are kept safe, make Carlos Arroyo the new mayor of New York, and make sure Sophia Arroyo stays out of trouble. Yeah, that’s a lot of things to ask of the Patrons.
Ivy also seeks a new purpose in life now that her mission to dismantle the Mendoza Syndicate has come to an end after 18 years. It has been over 20 years since she came to life, but neither she nor we, the players, have any idea about who created her.
An upcoming visual novel based on the character was leaked in the game’s files. We hope that once it drops, it will give us closure to the mysteries surrounding Ivy, just like the Lady Giest visual novel did for her character.
A few fun facts about Ivy are that she is quite fond of Paige and wants to start a book club with her. She and Vyper know each other from way back when the gorgon used to work under the Mendoza Syndicate, and Lash really likes her for their mutual hatred for the Syndicate.
