Ever since the first Maelstrom, New York’s Cursed Apple has become quite an important location in the Deadlock Universe. It is a hotbed for all kinds of supernatural events as the occult has slowly integrated itself into everyday life.
So naturally, there are a lot of powerful figures who are trying to spread their influence and take control of the streets. Underground gangs and rich capitalists want to take part in the ritual and fight to earn the patron’s favour so that their wish can be granted.
Yamato is one such character hailing from Japan, where she runs her own criminal organization, called the Seventh Moon. She seems to want control over New York desperately and has taken matters into her own hands because fulfilling the patron’s ritual will allow her wishes to come true. This is revealed further through some of her dialogues in the game.
Yamato wants to honour her brother’s legacy
Now the question arises: why is she so desperate to take territorial control of New York, coming all the way from Japan? While not much is known about the Seventh Moon organization, what we do know is that Yamato was not the only leader running the crime family.
In fact, Yamato was the name of a different person, who was the brother of Kaori, the current leader of Seventh Moon. Yamato is said to have died trying to save Kaori, and that impacted her enough to make the journey to the United States.
Kaori took over the name of her brother and vowed to work towards securing his legacy, which was the expansion of Seventh Moon’s dominance on an international level. This is why she must fight in the ritual.
The current in-game model for Kaori is actually a placeholder model from Deadlock’s previous iteration, which was Neon Prime, which is why she looks completely out of place in the game. Valve devs have teased images, ensuring that she is going to get a reworked model soon, and hopefully, the next update is the one that reintroduces her.
