Have you ever wondered just what in the hell Dynamo is in Deadlock? For a game set in the late 40s, dealing with racial segregation, Lovecraftian horror, and Cosmic Entities, what exactly is a futuristic robot doing in the ritual?
Now, if we start looking into his lore, we find out that Dynamo was a mere college professor at Columbia University. Once upon a time, he was studying an Astral Gate that opened up in New York; these are the very ones that appear every time during a maelstrom event.
However, he was careless, and he ventured beyond the safe distance of the gate, which caused him to lose his physical body, while leaving his soul behind. His backstory sort of pays a homage to superhero origin stories of the golden age.

And this is the exact trope which Dynamo is supposed to represent, because after his physical existence was obliterated, his soul did not give up and refused to atomize. He instead opted to modify himself into a being made of metal.
Dynamo wants to hug his wife for three months straight
The professor has been married for 31 years and counting to a woman named Maria. However, we have not seen her in the game yet, nor do we know what Dynamo used to look like before he lost his body.
But what we do know is that he has a clear goal in mind, which is participating in the ritual so that he can earn the favor of the patrons and wish his original body back and hug his wife without ‘letting her go for three months’ straight without it. This newfound mission in his life is something that has no room for pacifism.

In popular media, a character involved with academia generally does not relate to excellence in physicality. But Dynamo’s past completely subverts that, as he is said to have been involved in a lot of fistfights in his youth.
Dynamo cares for Pocket as he is his godfather
As an adult and being one of the most brilliant minds in the world of Deadlock, Dynamo has no reason to slow down. He even invented his own energy-fueled gun called the Vonnegun, which he wields in the game.
Dynamo is very defensive about his wife; we find this through his heated conversations with Lash, who tries to insult their marriage. Dynamo warns Lash and tells him to speak respectfully about his wife.

One fun fact about the professor is that he is Pocket’s godfather. We find this out when he expresses his relief in finding that Pocket is still alive, as he was supposed to be assassinated by the orders of his own father.
