We all know that the Maelstrom is an important supernatural event in Deadlock, which occurs approximately every 50 years. It is one of the main reasons why the occult and the supernatural exist in the world.
The Maelstrom event opens up portals to other worlds, separate from the regular plane of existence. This has made it possible for humanity to come in contact with a completely new race of beings and their country, known as Ixia.
Visually, most Ixians pretty much reference the popular humanoid race called tieflings, from Dungeons and Dragons. With few exceptions, most Ixians are born with horns and a tail, which make them look like religious depictions of the devil.
Ixians are racially discriminated against in Deadlock
This is one of the main reasons why Ixians are also heavily discriminated against in human society, even though most have migrated and assimilated into the real world. Apollo is one of the few among them who constantly stands his ground against racist gestures.
As someone who was born into royalty, it is only natural that Apollo grew up to uphold the pride of being an Ixian. He is referred to as ‘The Prince of Ixia’ and his father is the ruler of the northern region of Ixia.
While growing up, North Ixia was slowly being pushed into a hotbed for conflicts. Fearing for the Prince’s life, everyone decided to send Apollo to New York. Now he lives in the Cursed Apple, dedicating himself to training in the ways of the blade.
Waiting for the day his father calls him back to his world to aid him by his side. In the meantime, Apollo has been living his life as a teenage high schooler from Blackmore Academy, and one of his closest acquaintances is Graves.
Apollo never talks about his mother
He is the captain of his institution’s fencing club and a champion at the sport. Unlike most kids at the Academy who are always looking to party, Apollo spends most of his time in diligence and training.
Although it is unclear as to what the young prince’s exact motivation is for the summoning ritual, it is not too far-fetched to imagine that he is participating for the sake of Ixia.
One rather grim fact about Apollo is that he keeps talking about how his life has been surrounded by political assassinations. This could imply that he lost his mother at a very young age to murder, as he never mentions her when talking about his father.
