Fishing is one of the mini-games you would want to spend more time on to maximize the cooking mechanic in Throne and Liberty. However, to be able to fish in the MMO you will first be required to get your hands on a fishing rod which will let you unlock the the mini-game.
Hence it can be a bit confusing to start fishing and make the most of it right off the bat. Here is a guide on everything you need to know about fishing in Throne and Liberty.
How to get a fishing rod to unlock fishing in Throne and Liberty
To unlock fishing in Throne and Liberty, you will be required to get your hands on a fishing rod first. These come in a variety of rarities and the most common one among them is the Bamboo Fishing rod.
Here are the two best ways of obtaining the fishing rod in the MMO:
1) Buy the rod from a Contract Coin Merchant
As you make your way through the main story missions, you will eventually complete your first Contract. Once that is done you will unlock the Contract Coin Merchant NPC who will sell the Bamboo Fishing Rod to you for 300 Contract Coins.
Note: This is a lot of coins to invest in a common fishing rod. Fortunately, there is a free way of getting it, which is to talk to the NPC who is across the street from the Contract Coin Merchant. Once the dialog ends you will obtain the rod without any financial investment.
2) Make your way through Adventures of the Expedition
Once you reach Chapter 3, you will be able to boot up Adventures of the Expedition by talking to the Adventure Pro Percy in Kastleton. After getting the quest, you will then need to visit the Amitoi House and send one of your Amitoi on an expedition.
Once that is done, speak to the NPC again and you will obtain the Bamboo Fishing Rod as a reward.
How to fish in Throne and Liberty
Once you have the rod, you will now need some bait. The easiest bait that you will get in the early game is the Paste Bait. You will be able to get a box of these every day by interacting with the Contract Coin Merchant.
After you get the bait, here are all the steps that you will need to take to start fishing in Throne and Liberty:
- Head to the Character selection of the menu and then look for the rod and bait option to the top left of your equipped weapons. You will have the choices of all the rods and bait in your inventory and once you have picked one in each of the boxes, make your way to the coastline which is near the area you are in.
- Once there you will get the option to cast your line into the water and then wait for the fish to bite. A stamina bar will appear and you will need to deplete it completely to be able to reel in your catch
- To deplete the stamina bar, you will need to pull in the opposite direction in which the catch is swimming. However, do keep in mind that if your character’s stamina bar is th one that gets depleted, you will lose your catch.
Why should you fish in Throne and Liberty?
As you invest more time in fishing you will be able to level up your life skills in the MMO. This will then make it much easier to catch some of the more challenging fish in Throne and Liberty which are then used in high-tier cooking recipes.
Different fish will be required for different recipes, hence you would want to get your hands on all of them as buffs from cooked food are instrumental in making the late-game grind significantly easier.
