The ROG Ally is the undisputed king of Windows-based handheld gaming PCs, offering the best of what integrated GPUs have to offer at an attractive price. Thanks to it running Windows as an operating system, the Ally is able to play virtually any game released for the PC.
Elden Ring and its DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree are perfect candidates for on the go gaming (and thus this device), much like Valve’s own Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED. While the ROG Ally can very easily run Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, there do exist a set of optimized settings that help smoothen the experience.
A breakdown of these Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree ROG Ally settings can be found detailed below – for both the handheld and game itself.
Optimized Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree ROG Ally settings
For this particular guide, we will be considering a baseline of 60 frames per second at 900p (1600×900) resolution for the ROG Ally. This combination allows for an easy, fluid framerate at moderate TDP values – thereby preserving battery life in the process.
The list of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree specific settings are as follows:
- Screen Mode: Fullscreen
- Resolution: Keep this at the value of 1600×900
- Auto detect best rendering settings: Keep this disabled
- Ray Tracing Quality: Keep this disabled at all times
- Quality Settings: Medium
While a 1080p image is much crisper, it is more taxing and generally not recommended to use.
Additionally, the list of ROG Ally specific settings for the Steam Deck include the following:
- Frame Rate Limit: Uncapped, for allowing VRR (variable refresh rate) to stay enabled
- Control Mode: Gamepad
- AMD RSR: Off
- CPU Boost: Off
- Resolution: 900p
- AMD RIS: Enabled
- Operating Mode: 15W (Performance)
AFMF for frame generation can also be left enabled for a small frame rate boost, at the cost of minor visual artifacting.
