Mac gaming has come a long way since the days of Intel-based devices, opting to use wine-like translation layers in order to run games natively on Apple Silicon. Most modern games are completely playable on modern Macs – assuming you meet certain minimum specifications of course.
Split Fiction is one such title that is playable on Apple Silicon Macs, thanks to the availability of tools such as Crossover and Whisky. More on how to play Split Fiction on Macs below.
How to play Split Fiction on a Mac

Playing Split Fiction on Apple Silicon Macs
- To play Split Fiction on an Apple Silicon Mac, you will require either Crossover or Whisky. Crossover, while paid, offers more bleeding edge features that are unavailable in Whisky. Whisky is free to use, and as such will be used for this particular example.
- Download and install Whisky on your Mac. macOS Sequoia is recommended.
- Fire up Whisky, and click on the ‘Create a Bottle’ button – add in an appropriate name for it, and wait for it to initialize.
- Download the Windows version of Steam (click on the Windows logo).
- Click on ‘Run’ from within the Whisky bottle you created earlier, and select your Steam executable.
- Wait for Steam to initialize, and log in as usual.
- Finally, head on over to your game library, and install Split Fiction.
You can now run Split Fiction through Whisky’s Steam app install and play as usual.
Do keep in mind that the game runs better on machines with 16 GB unified memory or higher, with Low settings and FSR 3.1 set to Performance. Additionally, it is recommended to try using D3DMetal over DXVK.
As a reference, a M4 Mac Mini (base model) can sustain around 60 FPS using Low settings and FSR set to Performance at 1080p.
Playing Split Fiction on an Intel Mac
- To play Windows games on an Intel Mac, you will have to dual boot.
- Run the Bootcamp Assistant program on your Mac.
- Select a valid Windows 10 ISO file, and allocate a set amount of space for your Windows partition.
- Let the installer do its magic, and reboot into Windows when prompted.
- Install any necessary drivers and updates, and install Split Fiction as you would on a Windows PC.
You can now simply boot into Windows from your Mac and play the game as usual. Do keep in mind that this method is entirely inapplicable for Apple Silicon Macs, which do not support Bootcamp.
