More Than Half of the Planned 2026 AI Data Centers Are Still Under Development or to Be Canceled

AI Data Centers were the reason for stifling the global memory chip supply chain, but a new report has now concluded that all the planned Data Centers are getting delayed or canceled. This has obviously made a lot of people online happy.

For the most part, consumer sectors were massively affected by the invasion of AI dependency, which made prices of RAMs and GPUs skyrocket to immeasurable heights. But now that the Data Centers could be hanging by a string, it is likely we will see the market slowly go back to a normal state.

Consumers everywhere were expecting and waiting for the AI bubble to burst, and it almost seems like we could be at the precipice of something similar. There are some notable factors that are responsible for this current situation with Data centers, according to a Bloomberg report.

Only investments cannot supply and demand

One of the biggest of them all is due to electrical grid constraints, which would become a glaring problem for data centers if they were cut short. Despite billions of investments to get them running by this year, only a few of the data centers are currently under construction.

Tech giants such as Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, and more are not holding back from investments and have already put in close to $650 billion this year alone. But not every demand can be solved through endless monetary investments, especially when the issue is exceeding its capacity.

According to reports, by this year alone, power grids with the capacity to generate around 12 gigawatts worth of electricity were planned for the US alone. Unfortunately for the investors, only a third of that has been met so far.

Consumers are happy to see the downfall of AI infrastructres

It’s currently set to a race against time because the plans for data centers were mapped out for years to come. Beyond this and the next year, there are AI Data Centers that are planned to start operation beyond 2028. But the infrastructure is lagging much behind the intended timeline.

Users on social media platforms such as Twitter/X chimed in to the news with celebratory notes. Most online, especially the gaming community, and artists, have severe disgust for the over-imposition of AI in tech.

Currently, the manufacturing of required components is largely dependent on offshore supply. The US has been largely unsuccessful in localising its own supply dependencies, and the present global market conditions now point to data centers highly likely to move offshore, but don’t take our word for it yet.
