Eevee is easily one of the most popular Pokemon in the franchise’s history due to its unique evolutions. To this day, it amuses fans that a cute, adorable Eevee can turn into eight completely different creatures with considerable combat abilities.
In Pokemon Go, Eevee is no different, and the developers have devised eight different ways for players to get the Eeveelutions in the game. There’s a name trick for the begginers while veterans can rely on slightly advanced ways that involve walking and completing other tasks.
In this guide, we’ll explain everything you need to know about Eeveelutions in Pokemon Go, including how to get the shiny and specific event-based versions.

Name trick to get every Eevee evolution in Pokemon Go
Do note that the secret name trick only works once per Eevee evolution in Pokemon Go. To implement this trick, all you need to do is to head to your collection, select the Eevee you want to evolve, and click on the pen icon right beside their name and change it to the following:
- Sylveon – Kira
- Glaceon – Rea
- Leafeon – Linnea
- Umbreon – Tamao
- Espeon – Sakura
- Flareon – Pyro
- Jolteon – Sparky
- Vaporeon – Rainer
A great way to confirm if your name trick is working is to check the silhouette that appears when you tap on the Evolve button after changing your Eevee’s name. The silhouette for each Eeevee evolution is different, and the image below should help you get a better idea.

Because the name trick is so easy, a lot of players end up wasting or experimenting it on Eeeves with relatively poor stats, such as CP and IVs. If you’re yet to use these tricks, we advise you to wait for a shiny, Hundo, or Shundo version.
A shiny Eevee is white, and the flare around it will help you identify it. A hundo is a 4* Pokemon with 100% IVs (3-star Attack, Defense, and HP), and you can check this out by tapping on the Pokemon from your collection and then selecting the Appraise option on the bottom-right corner of the screen.
A shundo is a shiny Pokemon with 100% IVs.
You can also search for these Pokemon in your collection by typing 3*, shiny, and 4* in the search bar.
How to evolve Eevee in Pokemon Go
If you’ve already made the most of the name trick to get Eeveelutions in Pokemon Go, here are the actual ways to evolve an Eevee in the game:
- Sylveon – Earn 70 hearts with the Eevee you want to turn into Sylveon. First, you’ll have to make the Eevee your buddy by tapping into your trainer portrait on the bottom left corner of the screen and selecting the buddy weapon. Once the Eevee is your buddy, activities like walking together, giving treats, playing together, battling together, visiting new places, and taking snapshots give you hearts.
- Umbreon – Walk 10kms/6.2miles with an Eevee (make it your buddy first by following the steps above) and then evolve it at night.
- Flareon – Collect 25 Eevee candies and evolve an Eevee. There’s a 33% chance for it to be a Flareon.
- Vaporeon- Collect 25 Eevee candies and evolve an Eevee. There’s a 33% chance for it to be a Vaporeon.
- Jolteon – Collect 25 Eevee candies and evolve an Eevee. There’s a 33% chance for it to be a Jolteon.
- Espeon – Walk 10kms/6.2miles with an Eevee (make it your buddy first by following the steps above) and then evolve it during the day.
- Leafeon – Go to a Pokestop and apply a Mossy Lure Module (the effect lasts 30 minutes) by tapping on the icon in the center. Now, you can head to the Eevee in your collection and click on Evolve. Doing so will turn it into a Leafeon.
- Glaceon – Go to a Pokestop and apply a Glacial Lure Module (the effect lasts 30 minutes). Now, select the Eevee you want to evolve, and it’ll turn into Glaceon.
Lure Modules in Pokemon Go are available in the shop for 200 Coins, and you can also obtain them as rewards for completing certain Special and Timed Research.

How to get shiny and event-themed Eeveelutions
To get shiny and event-themed (like the Holiday Hat versions from 2022) Eeveelutions in Pokemon Go, you must evolve a shiny or event-themed Eevee.

Basically, every attribute of an Eeveelution, such as its IVs, shiny status, and appearance distinction, is based on the original Eevee you evolve. Because the general process to get these Eeveelutions is quite complex, you should always wait for the right Eevee before evolving it.
Strongest Eevee evolution in Pokemon Go
While personal preference based on design is always an important factor while getting new Pokemon, in the case of Eevees, you only really have two good options:
- Umbreon is one of the strongest Pokemon for the Ultra league as its max CP caps off right before 1500, and it works amazingly well in the league.
- Sylveon is one of the best Pokemon worth using in the Master League. As a Fairy type, it is a direct counter to a lot of Dragon-type Pokemon that generally dominate this league.
Well, these are the two strongest Eeveevolutions that have prevailed in the Pokemon Go meta since day one. If combat isn’t your priority, feel free to get any other Eeveelution you want based on whatever your collection’s missing.
