The Far Cry live action adaptation won’t be borrowing from the video game storylines because gamers love skipping cutscenes. Cutscenes are a touchy subject for everyone, some feel it’s important for the overall narrative and diligently watch them, while others choose to watch some and skip others because they feel the gameplay is enough to tell the story.
But that doesn’t mean that cutscenes aren’t important at all. Take Destiny 2’s The Final Shape cutscenes for example. These are what some would call absolute cinema. However, Noah Hawley’s take on this very aspect for Far Cry has left a lot of individuals baffled.
Far Cry Had All the Necessary Villains For Its Live Action Adaptation
While the Far Cry live action production will feature a new set of characters, fans of the franchise believe that the preexisting series had all the right villains that could’ve made things easier for the showrunners.
One prime example that everyone pointed out was Vaas from Far Cry 3. He’s an iconic video game villain, and for anyone who’s played the game, Vaas’ iconic monologue is something that they’ve held on to for a really long time. So, the showrunners choosing to ditch this material completely is nothing short of disappointing.
Barring a handful video game adaptations like The Last Of Us or even Fallout for that matter, most TV series adaptations haven’t done well with the fans at all. The latest one to attempt something like this was Mass Effect, which was trying to pivot to something more consumer friendly.
Individuals on social media have labelled this move as tone deaf and outright disrespectful to the franchise and video games in general. What individuals also pointed out was the fact that a lot Far Cry games didn’t have skippable cutscenes, which shows that the showrunners have little to no idea about the franchise to begin with.
What’s more unfortunate is the fact that it isn’t the first time something like this is happened. The same happened with both Halo and Borderland franchises. Far Cry is a very popular franchise and has a cult-like following. To see the franchise being handled this way, is very disappointing for fans all around the globe
