Best League of Legends Support champions to climb rank with

The best Support champions are completely taking over the Bot Lane meta in League of Legends season 14. Some of the top picks are easily carrying games, setting up their team for success with either the utility or the damage that they bring to the table.

The new item changes have given Supports a significant boost to the impact that they have in a game. They are helping their ADCs have a significantly easier time during the laning phase. While also having an impact on the rest of the map when they roam.

Below is a list of some of the best Support champions that will help you climb rank faster in League of Legends season 14.

13 best meta support champions to climb rank with, in League of Legends 14.11

13) Morgana

Morgana

Morgana is a great counter-pick against a Bot Lane that likes to play aggressively during the laning phase. She has good range and strong CC, which makes her a great duo for some of the meta ADCs at the moment.

One of Morgana’s biggest assets is her E which provides immunity to CC for a certain time. This lets her negate a lot of the engage that the enemy can throw at her backline. Supports like Leona, Theresh, and Blitzcrank, have a rather hard time playing into her.

Mograna’s best build paths let her Q+W combo deal a fair bit of poke damage. She can chip out the enemy frontline with it, or even catch out a carry forcing them to play more passively during a skirmish. Her tools make her one of the best support champions to climb rank with this season.

Morgana has great engage and disengage tools, however, she is very skill shot reliant. While she can be fairly easy to pick up you, you might not be having a good time with her if you don’t know how to champion her during a teamfight

12) Maokai

Maokai

Out of all the tank supports Maokai has the most survivability. However, Maokai’s best build path in the role is also quite versatile and you can look to put in some AP items to make his samplings hit harder.

While you can play him as a traditional support, Maokai pairs extremely well with a Fasting Senna. A Fasting Senna strat makes her get passive farm from her Absolution and her support item. This lets her lane duo take all the minion gold.

Hence, if Maokai is farming in Bot Lane, he gets challenging to deal with very fast. The current Support meta favors champions that can be tanky and deal damage. This is precisely the reason why he is sitting high up on the priority list at the moment.

His Saplings help with getting additional vision around the map. His ultimate lets him have some amazing objective setups, letting him root enemies from half a screen away. This makes it significantly easier for his team to collapse on them.

11) Pyke

Pyke

Pyke support is really strong at the moment. The best Pyke build makes the most of the new Lethality changes, giving him some much-needed quality-of-life during. He is much more relevant in the laning phase and scales quite well the longer the game goes

Umbral Glaive lets him have a good vision score. It also allows him to make plays across the map by detecting wards and helping him take them out. It makes repeat ganks easier, and Pyke can truly start to snowball the game once he gets early leads.

With Hail of Blades and Ignite, Pyke gets to have a good kill threat during the laning phase. He synergizes extremely well with other all-in ADCs like Samira, Nilah, and Miss Fortune, who are also the meta picks at the moment.

However, compared to some of the other Support champions on the list, Pyke is a bit harder to play and master. Knowing when to go in with him takes a bit of practice. But he is incredibly rewarding once you get his executions right.

Also, make sure to build Axiom Arc on him to get his ultimate up faster.

10) Brand

Brand

Brand is one of the more popular poke supports in League of Legends’s current meta. The new AP item changes in season 14 have helped him gain a lot of agency in lane and in teamfights.

Brand’s core build of Liandry’s Torment and Rylai’s Crystal Scepter gives him some amazing mid-game power spike. He can take over teamfights thanks to his passive and is one of the best bot lane picks to deal with engage tank supports like Leona, Nautilus, Rakan, and Blitzcrank.

Brand is also fairly easy to pick up and climb the rank ladder with. His kit is rather straightforward, and your primary aim with him will be to get a Blaze proc going on as many enemies as possible.

Brand is great at melting the frontline as well due to his passive.  As it deals damage based on the target’s max health, he can easily chip out the enemy tanks. This makes it significantly easier for the rest of his carries to win fights and push for objectives.

9) Soraka

Soraka

Enchanter supports were not having a good time during the start of League of Legends season 14. It’s only after the recent string of balance updates, did picks like Soraka finally started getting some agency in the game.

The Starchild has been climbing up in popularity in solo-queue. She pairs incredibly well with hyper-carries because of the amount of utility she has in her kit. Soraka is pretty easy to pick up and master, making her one of the better beginner-friendly supports to get into.

Soraka’s best build paths help her fit most team compositions. She is an absolute asset during Mid-to-Late Game fights, as she will help her teammates stay alive longer. This makes her a good peeler who can nullify the enemy’s engage.

However, Soraka is bad at making plays unlike some of the other meta supports. This makes her very team reliant and there is little she can do if you choose to roam the map with her. Soraka is all about helping her teammates stay alive and win skirmishes.

8) Taric

Taric

Taric hasn’t had a very stable pick-and-ban rate for quite some time now. However, recent balance changes seem to have given him the quality of life that he so desperately needed.

The Shield of Valoran has gotten pretty popular in solo-queue lately. Support mains seem to be having a great time climbing the ranked ladder with him, and much of it is thanks to the CC and sustain his kit provides.

Taric’s build and abilities make him a pretty strong laner. He has a great Early Game and scales quite well the later a match goes. However, he can be a bit difficult to pick because of how his stun works.

Tarick has no point-and-click CC like some of the other supports. This makes him quite reliant on positioning and how well the rest of your team can follow up.

His ultimate Cosmic Radiance can be a game-changer when used right. It will negate all incoming damage and CC from the enemy for a brief period giving your team the time to re-engage on the enemy.

7) Leona

Leona is one of the best support champions

Leona’s all-in potential received a significant upgrade in season 14, helping her boost her popularity in solo queue. The new tank items make her next to impossible to kill. However, you can go a step further and add a Riftmaker to Leona’s build, which will make sure that she heals most of the damage that she receives.

Leona is one of the best Support champions at the moment during the early stages of the game. Her lane presence can be oppressive, especially if she is duo-ing with ADCs like Samira, Miss Fortune, Nilah, and Draven.

Leona has a good kill threat on the enemy Bot Lane as soon as she hits level 3. She can all in on the ADC carry. With Ignite, she can help her duo secure early leads. She brings a surprising amount of damage in the early game, which is often very easy to disrespect.

As she is a CC powerhouse, Leona can turn teamfights around if she is able to lock down the enemy backline with her utility.

6) Rakan

Rakan

Rakan has one of the most versatile playstyles as a Support. He has some incredible play-making potential allowing you to carry games if used right. A “flanking Rakan” is always a dangerous prospect, and if you can CC the enemy back-line, you will help your team automatically win fights.

However, Rakan is a bit hard to execute if you are not familiar with his kit. He has very long cooldowns during the laning phase. It would not be wise to go in on the enemy bot lane if you do not have enough kill pressure on them.

Rakan’s build in season 14 lets him make the most of his AP scaling. This lets him be a great peeler in the later stages of the game, allowing him to engage and disengage from a fight at will. Rakan is also great at roaming, so when you have pushed in your lane, use his CC tools to make plays in other parts of the map.

He also has special interactions with Xayah, so if you are playing as a duo, make sure your partner picks her if you are going for Rakan.

5) Zyra

Zyra

Zyra has an insane amount of kill pressure in the lane and late-game teamfights. The new support item Zaz’Zak’s Realmspike synergizes pretty well with her kit, allowing her to hit early powerspikes once her Liandry’s is done.

Additionally, Zyra is incredibly useful in taking down neutral objectives. Her Plants can help your jungler sneak in a drake, giving your team an early lead.

She has multi-CC tools that can lock the enemy in place. Unlike some of the other supports, Zyra has a much easier time rooting up the entire team while dealing a ton of damage to them.

Her Seeds grant a fair amount of vision as well. When enemies step on it, they get True Sight placed on them for a couple of seconds. This allows your team to know their exact position, even from the fog of war.

Her seeds allow her to keep track of the enemy jungler pathing as well, preventing your lane from getting ganked too often. The best Zyra builds help her scale incredibly well into the Late Game, letting her snowball off of early leads

4) Janna

Janna

Out of all the Enchanter Supports, Janna seems to be having the best time in Riot’s MOBA. She is pretty easy to pick up and synergizes pretty well with most ADCs in the game.

However, Janna does have a weak early game when she hasn’t put in too many points in her shield. You will also need some practice when it comes to making the most of her Q, Howling Gale. It’s important to know when to use it in lane and you should be reserving the skill to either engage or disengage.

Janna’s roaming potential is what has her on the best Support champion list. She can place deep visions early and make plays across the map. Just sitting in the lane as a Janna and assisting your ADC is not going to help you have a good time in the game.

She is meant to be a roaming support with her build so make sure you pair with a duo who is capable of farming under the tower.

3) Blitzcrank

Blitzcrank best support champion

The reason why Blitzcrank is so high up in the Support meta is because of the item called Trailblazer. It was one of the newer additions in season 14, which allows him to gain stacks as he moves. At max stacks,, it leaves a trail behind him, which will increase the movement of all allied champions within.

Blitzcrank’s gameplay is all about moving fast and grabbing the enemy carries. With this new item, he is able to close the gap rather quickly, making it easier for him to land his hooks and grabs.

The Steam Golem is an entertaining champion to pick up in season 14. The best Blitzcrank build utilizes a bit of damage as well. So you can look to mix things up a bit by opting into a Shadowflame or even a Stormsurge if you are feeling a bit cheeky.

2) Milio

Milio

Recent meta changes have finally helped Milio enjoy some popularity in solo-queue. The Gentle Flame is one of the best Enchanter Supports at the moment who scales incredibly well into the Late Game.

Milio has great peel, allowing him to fit into almost any team composition. While he has a relatively weaker laning phase compared to most other meta supports, Milio more than makes up for it during teamfights.

Milio’s best builds and itemization allow him to have an easier time saving his ADC if they get collapsed on. His ultimate. Breath of Life is one of the best anti-CC tools in the game which acts as an AOE Cleanse for teammates who are standing near him.

However, Milio can be a bit hard to master. He has a relatively higher skill curve than some of the beginner-friendly supports, but he can be a very rewarding experience. There is nothing like using his Q to nullify enemy dash and jump-in skills.

He can force the enemy to waste a lot of their CC tools during a skirmish, making it significantly easier for your team to engage on them.

1) Braum

Braum

Braum has always enjoyed a steady pick rate in League of Legends’ solo queue. He has been one of the best support champions to climb the rank ladder with because of just how simple his kit is.

However, Braum has a lot of room for skill expression which is why he has always been a part of the proplay meta. Braum’s best builds make the most of his disengage tools when setting up for teamfights and objectives.

While he suffers in lane against ranged match-ups like Brand and Zyra, he has a much bigger impact the later a game goes. He peels exceptionally well for his carries, and can block a good amount of damage and CC with a well-timed Unbreakable.

Braum pairs amazingly well with hyper-carries who keep scaling into the late game. Picks like Ashe, Ezreal, Kai’Sa, Kalista, and Kog’Maw are some of the best ADCs to go with him.

The Heart of Freljord has a good kill presence at level three. So if you are consistently landing your Winter’s Bite, make sure that you and your ADC follow up on the Concussive stacks. This will either let you get kills, or chip out the enemy enough that they are pushed under the tower. Thereby, helping you secure early plates and a Gold advantage.
