Runewords were a feature that existed in Diablo 2, and Blizzard has revealed that these will be coming to Diablo 4 with the Vessel of Hatred expansion.
These Runewords are divided into two basic categories, namely Runes of Ritual and Runes of Invocation, and are a way to make your character more powerful.
Runes of Ritual create a buff whenever you perform a specific action while Runes of Invocation will grant you that buff whenever you meet the threshold of that specific action.
Diablo 4 players are excited to try out this feature ones it comes to the game, and are excited that these Runewords are tradeable.
This information was shared on the recent campfire chat and the community on Reddit shared their excitement about the same.
Reacting to the announcement, one player said, “I think this is the best possible way they could have added Runewords. It doesn’t invalidate current items / uniques / mythics, and adds another layer of customization to builds.”
Another player commended the complexity that was born from such a simple system and said, “they kept the runeword concept from the Diablo 4 alphas! The trigger->action system. That provides many combinations with few runes and I always liked the idea. Complexity spawning from a simple system.”
It’s worth mentioning that players have also noted that these Runewords different than what was seen in Diablo 2, but most of them have expressed that they’ll be getting Vessel of Hatred just to try out this feature.
It’s also worth noting that these Runewords can be traded between players who own the Vessel of Hatred expansion, giving everyone a reason to purchase the new DLC.
While most players are excited to try out this new system, there are a few naysayers who’ve accused Blizzard of baiting players. With Vessel of Hatred set to release on October 8, it will be worth seeing what other features the developers end up announcing for the new expansion.
