How to get and use Pets in Diablo 4

Pets have arguably been one of the best additions to Diablo 4 who have made their way to the RPG right after the Vessel of Hatred trailer was revealed earlier this year. These furry little companions can be a great source of comfort as you make your way through the grim demon-laden world of Sanctuary.

However, getting a pet can be quite tricky if you are new to the game and are just logging in. So here, is a guide on everything you need to know about getting and using a pet in Diablo 4.

How to obtain and equip a Pet in Diablo 4

There are two ways to go about unlocking a pet in Diablo 4, you can either complete the Faithful Companion quest or pre-order the Vessel of Hatred. While the latter is self-explanatory, to achieve the former you will need to:

  • Log into the game and you will notice that the Faithful Companions quest has automatically been placed as a marked task in your missions list.
  • Make your way to Kyovashad and start the quest by talking to the “Well-Behaved Dog” near the blacksmith hut.
  • The quest will then tell you to pet the dog. You will need to move close to the dog and interact with it directly to complete the quest.
  • Using the “hello” emote will not complete the mission. So make sure you are directly interacting with the dog.

Once that is done the dog will automatically join you. However, to avail the benefits of a pet you will need to equip it first. To do that, you will need to head to your Wardrobe, where you will now see that a fourth tab has appeared.

This tab houses all the potential pets that you have collected. So, select the dog and equip it. This will activate your pet which will now follow you around.

If you are pre-ordering Vessel of Hatred, each edition will offer a different pet. If you are opting for the Ultimate edition then you will be able to get your hands on all three pets. Here is a list of them all:

How to use Pets in Diablo 4

Pet’s are best used for picking up items after you have slain enemies in Diablo 4. You don’t need to actively use them for the purpose as they will automatically pick up all of your drop rewards.

Cats and Dogs are particularly useful than completing Abberant Cinders where item drop rates are at an all-time high.

Additionally, do keep in mind that pets will not fulfill their functions if you are on horseback. You will need to kill monsters and travel on foot to allow them to collect your loot.
