PogChamps 6

PogChamps is a popular tournament that Chess.com hosts. They invite popular figures from various industries and have them compete in a tournament. Although the standard of chess isn’t that high, it involves several big names, drawing a lot of attention to the particular sport.

In the sixth iteration of PogChamps, DrLupo was among the people invited to play the tournament and he was quite enthusiastic playing in the same. However, it seemed a bit unusual for a player who isn’t well-versed with the game to play extremely accurate moves. This resulted in cheating speculations from the community.

Later on, DrLupo posted this on his X handle:

“Regarding @chesscom PogChamps tourney: Had a ton of fun playing, but have decided to drop out of the event to help maintain competitive integrity for those involved, as well as the tourney organizers. Having the main stream up on my left monitor over the course of the day today to watch other games being played led to me getting move information I shouldn’t have had for a game. That’s on me and no one else. That’s my f**k up. I apologize – you’d think I would know better, but here we are.

Following this, the streamer later admitted that he additionally used the assistance of a chess engine to play matches in the specific tournament. Him getting carried away has caused a lot of controversy within the community. People are doing their usual job of delivering sarcastic roasts and other comments.
