Elden Ring players are running into a problem with the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC where they are not able to access the Land of Shadows. The “can’t access Shadow of Erdtree” bug is happening right after the 1.12 patch.
Even if you have the DLC downloaded and have beaten Radahn and Mohg you will not get access to the new content by interacting with the limp hand when the bug occurs.
It’s one of the more annoying issues that the expansion is facing and it seems to be a recurring problem.
Fortunately, here are a few things that you will be able to do in order to try and fix the “can’t access Shadow of the Erdtree” error in Elden Ring.
How to fix Elden Ring’s “can’t access Shadow of the Erdtree” error
Primary fix: Restore license
The best way to fix the error will be to restore your license for the game. Here is how different platform owners will be able to do it:
PlayStation 5:
- Press the home button and then make your way to the Settings page. It will be denoted with the cog wheel.
- Then head into t Users and Accounts and then Other. Here you will find the option to Restore Licences.
- Do it and hit the confirm button.
Xbox Series X/S:
To fix the access issue on Xbox you will need to download the DLC separately. To do this:
- Head to the Elden Ring game card.
- Then press opinion and then select Manage.
- Now uninstall and then re-install the DLC separately to solve the issue.
PC:
The issue is mainly happening for Microsoft Store users and not Steam users. To fix it:
- Make your way to the Microsoft Store and then uninstall the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and then re-download it.
Alternate Fixes:
1) Re-install the base game and the DLC
If restoring licenses does not work then you will need to re-install the base game as well as the DLC from scratch.
2) Scan and fix files
PC users will be able to use their respective platforms to scan and fix the game files. By verifying file integrity, you will automatically replace any corrupt files with new ones.
3) Update your GPU
This is for PC users as well. If the DLC is not launching because you have an older version of the GPU drivers then you can either update them through the respective desktop apps or manually download them from the Nvidia and AMD websites:
What causes the “can’t access Shadow of the Erdtree” error in Elden Ring?
The error can occur if the RPG fails to read the licenses after the latest update. It can also occur if there are some corrupt files in the installation directory which is preventing you from interacting with Miquella’s cocoon.
