Central Park’s Chess Players are Participating in the Ritual

Solomon truly has one of the more unique designs out of all the Deadlock cast. Using a chessboard for a weapon, the friendly-neighbourhood New York Grandmaster remains unfazed no matter who his opponent is.

To him, chess is more than a game. It is an equalizing factor that allows him to connect with people from all walks of life on an even playing field.

In the streets of the Cursed Apple, he shoots at enemies by flicking chess pieces at them. And during his reload animation he quickly plays a chess game on his board, referencing famous chess games that involve famous players from real life.

However, the game he plays is selected based on the maximum ammo that he has. With the game’s final move ending with the same amount of pieces as his max ammo capacity.

There is 25 games that can play throughout the course of the match, starting with Maurice Ashley vs Joshua Waitzkin (1999) for 8 ammo, to Magnus Carlsen vs Viswanathan Anand (2014) for 17 ammo and finally ending with Magnus Carlsen vs Hikaru Nakamura (2021) for 32 ammo.

Much like Baba, Solomon spends most of his time in Central Park. And he is taking part in the Summoning Ritual in order to protect New York, and to make sure that the power of the Patrons does not fall into the wrong hands.

Which is why, during one of his in-game interactions, Solomon threatens to cancel out Seven’s wish and warns him that he will lose more than he will gain in his pursuit for godhood.

Solomon knows about the true nature of Doorman

Solomon knows more than he lets on which is why it’s often difficult to get a measure of his actual power and capabilities. He knows the true nature of the Doorman, and believes that he should be impartial instead of participating in the Ritual himself.

However, Baba feels that there is a bond between the Chessmaster and the Interplaner being, with the latter often speaking highly of the other.

Solomon has played chess with several members of the cast, and even offered to teach them how to play. He has played against Mo & Krill, Billy, as well as the Curiosity Dealer, and he often challenges McGinnis, while Paradox wants to play against him.
