Count Ymir is a sorcerer NPC whom you will meet in the Manus Metyr Cathedral in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. While the count can teach you some of the more unique sorceries that the Land of Shadows has to offer, he also has a questline that you can complete to reach an optional boss and get your hands on special gear and more exclusive spells.
Count Ymir’s mission is one of the longest ones in the DLC, and you will need to complete a lot of steps in a particular order to complete it. Additionally, you will need to have access to a majority of the locations in the Land of Shadow along with having atleast one of the two special items to get a reward from Jolan, who is Ymir’s servant.
Here is a guide on how you can easily complete the Count Ymir questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
How to find Count Ymir and start his questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

To find Count Ymir and start his questline, you will need to make your way to Manus Metyr Cathedral. It can be accessed only after you have beaten Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Castle Ensis, and successfully made your way into Scadu Altus.
From the Highroad Cross Site of Grace, you will need to make your way north. From the fork turn right and then head southeast to reach the Moorth Ruins.
The goal is to look for a hole in the ground in the Ruins. Once you stop it, hop down and it will take you to an underground cavern. Make your way through the tunnels, and you will eventually reach Bonny Village.
From the village head east, and you will reach two bridges arching over a ravine. Now head north, you will encounter a pack of wolves and a Furnace Golem. So move past them to reach the Church District Highroad Site of Grace.
From there go south to reach the Manus Metyr Cathedral. You will find Count Ymir in the main area sitting on a throne. Speak to him and exhaust his dialogs to receive the Hole-Laden Necklace as well as a Ruins Map which will lead you to the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
There is a chance that you might not find Ymir on the throne. You can spot him near a small graveyard beside the Cathedral.
Once you have exhausted his dialogs you will have successfully started his questline. You can learn unique sorceries from the NPC after you have reset the area by resting at the grace.
How to complete Count Ymir’s questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Here are some of the steps you will need to follow to complete the Count Ymir questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:
1) Sound the Hanging Bells in the Finger Ruins of Rhia

For the first step of Ymir’s questline, you will need to make your way to the west of Jagged Peak and reach Finger Ruins of Rhia. You can get there by heading northeast of the Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace.
If you have unlocked the area, all you will need to do is ride along the coastline and head west. You will eventually come across a stone slab acting as a ramp. Climb onto it and jump to the other side to reach the Finger Ruins of Rhia.
You will now spot a massive crater with Fingercreepers and Snakemen all around. You can head to the northern end and you will find the Hanging Bell tangling in front of stones that are shaped into fingers.
Interact with it and choose the following option: “Sound the hanging bell”. When done you will receive the Crimson Seed Talisman +1. Return back to Ymir, and he will give you the next Ruins Map to the FInger Ruins of Dheo.
2) Sound the Hanging Bells in the Finger Ruins of Dheo

For the next step in the Count Ymir questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you will need to ring the bells in the Finger Ruins of Dheo. To reach the area you will need to first gain access to Shadow Keep’s Back Gate Site of Grace.
From there head north until you come across a side passage that leads east to a statue of Marika that is missing her head. In front of the Altar you will get the “O Mother” gesture, so make sure to pick it up as it will open a secret passageway.
Use the gesture in there to unlock the passage leading into the Hinterland Site of Grace. From there head east and you will eventually reach the Fingerstone Hill Site of Grace. Make your way southeast from this checkpoint to spot another crater filled with Snakemen.
The goal is to reach the southern end of the ruins to find the Hanging Bells. Interact with it and “Sound the hanging bell” to get a Cerulean Seed Talisman +1.
Head back to Ymir to gain the final Ruins Map which will lead you to the Finger Ruins of Miyr.
3) Beat Swordhand of Night Anna and Metyr, the Mother of Finger in the Finger Ruins of Miyr

Once you have obtained the final Ruins Map you will need to head to the Finger Ruins of Miyr which is below the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. To unlock the area, you will first need to make sure that Ymir is not sitting on his throne.
Reset the area a few times so that he goes to the graveyard. Once he is there, interact with the throne and flip the switch which is underneath the seat, It will then open up a passageway to the Finger Birthing Grounds.
There will be abe another hanging Bells there, ring it and head into the Finger Ruins of Miyr. You will soon be invaded by the Swordhand of Night Anna. She is pretty easy to beat, and once you have taken her down, you can then move on to fight the optional boss herself.
The boss of Ymir’s questline is Metyr, the Mother of Fingers. She is a mage boss and can be difficult to handle based on the build that you are going for. However, once you beat her, her Remembrance will let you get your hands on a catalyst called the Staff of the Great Beyond.
This weapon will let you cast both sorceries and incantations at the same time. Alternatively, you can also get the Gazing Finger club which is considered to be one of the best strength weapons in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
4) Defeat Swordhand of Night Jolan and kill Ymir, Mother of FIngers
After you have defeated Metyr, warp back to Manus Metyr where you will be invaded by Swordhand of Night Jolan. Kill her and you will then get to take on Ymir himself who will spawn on his throne.
Defeat Ymir and you will obtain his Bell Bearing. Now reset the area and head to the cemetery to find the Cherishing Fingers sorcery.
Should you use the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Oculltation on Jolan in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
Once you head back to Manus Metyr, you will find Jolan on her last pegs. Interacting with her will give you two choices to either use the Iris of Grace or the Iris of Occultation on her.
Iris of Grace:
- If you use this you will receive Swordhand of Night Jolan as a Spirit Ash. She is a capable summon that can help you out in most boss encounters.
Iris of Occultation:
- For this option, you get one of the best Dexterity weapons in the DLC, Sword of Night. It has the ability to pierce through weapons and shield blocks and comes with passive Bleed and one of the coolest Ashes of War in the RPG.

How to get the Jolan and Anna Spirit Ash in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
If you have chosen the Iris of Grace then you will obtain the Jolan and Anna Spirit Ash where you will get to summon two Swordhand of the Night spirits at the same time.
To do this, make your way to the Hinterland Site of Grace in Scaduview and head to the Shaman Village to the east. From there head down some ledges, till you reach a balcony into Rabbath’s Rise.
Here you will find Anna’s puppet. Interact with it and you will get the option to “Usher Anna into Swordhand of Night Jolán’s spirit ashes?”. If you select “Yes” you will automatically gain the Jolan and Anna Spirit Ash.
Fortunately, if you are unhappy with the dual spirit summon, you will be able to revert the upgrade by interacting with the doll again.
This concludes the Count Ymir questline in FromSoftware‘s latest DLC expansion for Elden Ring.
