All major changes in League of Legends 2026 Season 1— Role Quests, Demacia map, and more

Season 1 of League of Legends in 2026 will bring an extensive number of changes to the MOBA, which is going to shake things up quite a bit. One of the biggest highlights of the upcoming season is the map change from Noxus to Demacia. You will no longer see an Atakhan spawning in the game anymore.

Because of this, games are going to be much faster as there will no longer be an additional objective to stall out for. Along with this, there will be Role Quests for every single position, completing which will provide you with unique bonuses based on the role. Keeping this in mind, the Feats of Strength system is also getting removed.

Below is a list of everything you can look forward to in League of Legends in Season 2026.

What’s new in League of Legends 2026 Season 1?

1) No more Noxus! Welcome Demacia!

League of Legends 2026 Demacia map

2026 will be the year of Demacia, and the Noxus arena will be done away with. Similar to the Noxus theme, all the turrets, nexus, and other layouts of the map will feature the iconic gold and white of the new region, boasting blue accents that make it look like it was made with petricite.

The Demacia theme that you will see in 2026 will be based around the old Demacia, which is also called the “golden age” of Demacia, where magic was forbidden. Apart from this, a key Demacian champion will also take the center stage in the January 2026 cinematic, and the entire year’s story will revolve around them.

2) No more Atakhan! Faster games, new and more powerful objectives!

No more Atakhan in League of Legends 2026

As mentioned, starting in 2026, Atakhan will no longer be a part of the Rift. This means that games are going to be much faster due to one less neutral objective to fight for. Apart from this, the Feats of Strength system is also going to be removed along with the Blood Roses and Petals.

This also means that the Baron Nashor will spawn at the 20-minute mark as it used to, and the first blood and first turret gold will also be returning to 300 and 100, respectively.

Apart from this, the Epic Monster will also have 15% more durability, allowing teams more room to posture around the objective. Dragons and Baron will also offer huge comeback XP, so they will tie into the game’s comeback mechanic, allowing losing teams more opportunity to reach their powerspikes.

Minions and jungle camps will spawn 35 seconds earlier, thereby shortening the pre-game time by a lot. You will be laning much sooner and making it highly risky to go for early invades in the enemy jungle. The goal for this is to reduce idle time as much as possible and disincentivize early game cheese strats.

Special ward spots, called Faelights, will also be added around the map. If you place a ward in this spot, it will grant extra vision. Yellow trinkets will also recharge faster, and you will find more Scryer’s Bloom on the map.

3) Crystalline Overgrowth will further incentivize splitpushing

Crystalline Overgrowth on tower in League of Legends 2026

With the new Crystalline Overgrowth mechanic, splitpushing will be the name of the game in 2026. Champions that excel in side lanes will be much more favorable this time around, as the new mechanic makes it so that a crystal builds up on turrets over time and then creates a burst of damage on the structure when hit.

The objective for this change will be to move the focus away from securing objectives all the time and more into pushing into the enemy base, and making games much faster.

The Crystalline mechanic will work as a universal demolish proc for all champions. Moreover, turret plates are going to be permanent throughout the game, and will be extended into the inner and inhibitor turrets, giving you even more incentive to hit the turrets and not just play for Dragons and Barons.

The defensive scaling on turrets is also going to be reduced, and they will no longer be stacking resistances after the 15-minute mark.

4) Minions spawn much sooner

Minion Waves will spawn sooner in League of Legends season 16

Minion wave spawns are also going to be tuned in season 16; they will appear in lane much more frequently, giving you more opportunities to push without making the game too snowball-heavy. Here are the new minion timers

  • Mid-game: Minions will now spawn every 25 seconds instead of 30, with one fewer melee minion spawning whenever a cannon spawns.
  • Late game: Minions will now spawn every 20 seconds instead of 30, with one less caster minion.
  • Super minions: Super minions will now spawn with every wave, every time an inhibitor falls.
  • Nexus turrets respawn: Nexus turrets will no longer spawn at full health, but with 40% HP.

All of the minion and turret changes are going to make splitpushing one of the major win conditions in a match.

5) New Role Quests and rewards

Role quests in League of Legends Season 16

The next big thing that is making its way to the Rift is the Role Quests. Every role will now have its own individual quests that they will need to track, and to complete and progress through them, you will need to complete simple tasks like killing minions, champions, and taking down objectives.

Here are the rewards that you will get for completing the quest in each role:

RoleQuest Rewards
Top lane• Free longer cooldown Teleport, or an upgraded Teleport if they already took it.
• Bonus experience on completion and increased XP gain afterward.
• Higher max level cap for more late-game impact.
Jungle• More gold and XP from large jungle monsters after quest completion.
• Bonus movement speed inside the jungle.
• Slightly slower early clear to reduce early map pressure.
• Increased Smite damage
Mid lane• Free tier 3 boot upgrade for better mobility.
• Empowered 4-second recall with a cooldown.
AD Carry• Large gold payout on completion, plus increased gold from kills and assists.
• The seventh item slot is reserved for boots, allowing an extra legendary item for stronger scaling.
Support• New control ward only slot and reduced control ward cost.
• Increased passive gold generation for more flexible item builds.

As champions will only be able to complete their quests in the lanes that they have chosen, there will no longer be any lane-swap detection system. This will allow each role to feel a bit more unique and impactful with set goals for them to reach in a specific time.

6) New Items and Crit damage revert to 200%

Finally, around 10 new items are going to be making their way next season, with Hextech Gunblade making a return to the Rift. On top of these, critical damage is going to go back to 200% for all champions. This is going to make crit champs hit much harder once they start getting their item spikes.
