Aurelion Sol is one of the best scaling Mid Laners in League of Legends 14.11 with his popular build options allowing him to hit like a truck in the Late Game. The Star Forger has been enjoying a fair bit of pick-and-ban lately. Much of which has to do with the series of balance changes he had received.
While he has a weak Early Game, Aurelion Sol can take over the entire teamfight once he gets a few items under his belt. He can melt through the enemy frontline after stacking up enough Stardust and gets very difficult to deal with the longer the game goes.
Once mastered, Sol can be incredibly rewarding and help you breeze through the competitive ladder.

Aurelion Sol Pros and Cons in League of Legends Season 14
Pros:
- Aurelion Sol scales incredibly well into the Late Game. His passive lets him accumulate Stardust and after a certain threshold the properties of his abilities change and he gains access to more damage, CC, and utility in his kit. The longer a match goes the harder it gets to deal with him in Riot’s MOBA.
- Aurelion Sol has a fair bit of item versatility. While you can go for a more glass-cannon build with him, there are other tanky options that you can opt into based on the situation. This lets Sol have more sustain during teamfights and makes it harder for the enemy to focus him and burst him down.
- Aurelion Sol has amazing wave clear which makes it quite difficult to siege against him. Hard forcing towers against him is an issue, as he can instantly clear a wave away. He is also a good zoner who can make it difficult for the enemy team to contest neutral objectives.
Cons:
- Aurelion Sol has a bad Early Game. He lacks agency during the laning phase and he will often be forced to farm under the tower. He will not be of much use during teamfights before Aurelion Sol’s best build options finally come online. This makes him very item-reliant and Sol will not have a good time in a game if he is forced to fall behind early.
- Sol is very squishy and can be bursted down when caught out. It’s easy to over-extend with Astral Flight during an engage, leaving him vulnerable to the enemy CC and engage. Even with a few sustain items he is relatively squishy. In the Late Game when the enemy carries have their full build done, he can be easily killed.
- Aurelion Sol needs a good frontline to peel for him. While he can soak a fair bit of damage, he can’t act as a frontline. His relatively shorter ability range on Breath of Light requires him to get up close to the enemy. This leaves him vulnerable and is exactly why he pairs best in comps that have a good frontline.
How to play Aurelion Sol: Tips and Tricks for League of Legends Season 14

Early Game:
- As mentioned, Aurelion Sol has a very weak early game. So the laning phase will all be about stacking his Stardust and staying relevant in both farm and XP. If you are pushed into the lane, learn to last hit under the tower and try reaching Aurelion Sol’s best build and core items as soon as possible.
- Sol is squishy and very easy to gank in the Early Game. So make sure to ward around your lane and in the enemy jungle to spot out the enemy pathing. This will let you avoid ganks and not give away unnecessary kills just because you pushed up your lane.
- Try going for trades with the enemy Mid Laner when their abilities are on a cooldown. This will let you have a favorable trade and gain an early advantage. Sol has a surprising amount of burst early on if he is allowed to stand and stack his Breath of Light.
Mid Game:
- Sol starts having a bit of agency in the Mid Game. Once he gets a few items under his belt you will be able to look for plays in other parts of the map. His Astral Flight is a great gap-closing tool that will let him pressure side lanes and help his team gain advantages.
- The Star Forger has a good neutral objective setup. So feel free to help your team ut when they are posturing for a Heral dor Dragon take. His CC tools make it difficult for the enemy to contest, so make the most of his E+Q combo if a skirmish breaks out.
- Rotate to the side lanes and threaten tower damage. Sol’s wave clear is exceptional and you will be able to keep pushing in the lane forcing the enemy to respond to it. However, make sure to not get too aggressive with your push. Look to damage the enemy towers only when you are certain that there is no threat of a gank.
Late Game:
- Very few Mid Lane champions can boast the same amount of AOE damage and scaling that Aurelion Sol brings to the table in the Late Game. Once Sol’s best build is done and he has made his core items, he can melt through the enemy frontline, while CC-ing the backline with his Falling Star.
- Once Falling Star is stacked and upgraded with Stardust, you will be able to burst out the enemy carries. Enemies hit will also be knocked up and CC-ed making it easier for the rest of the team to collapse on them. So make the most of Sol’s R when a teamfight breaks out.
- Sol can melt through the neutral objective. So always help your team out when they are looking to secure the Drake or the Baron. Make it hard for the enemy Jungler to contest the objective with your E. However, make sure to position well and kite around a fight. Sol remains squishy and is one CC away from instantly getting popped and sent to the fountain.
