The best Lucian builds make the most of the recent crit item changes in League of Legends season 14. While he has struggled early on in the competitive meta, recent buffs have helped him quite a lot.
His pick and ban rate has gone up significantly in pro play and solo queue. However, Lucain is a bit hard to master when compared to some of the other meta ADCs.
Fortunately, he can be an incredibly rewarding experience, especially because of how he can snowball through early leads. Lucian is a lane bully who has incredible kill pressure in the early game.
As he has higher mobility, Lucian is also hard to lock down in a teamfight. If you like a high-risk high-reward playstyle where you have to kite around a lot, then The Purifier might just be the perfect pick for you.

Lucian Pros and Cons in League of Legends Season 14
Pros:
- Lucian is a lane bully who can snowball the game as soon as he gets some early advantages. He has great kill pressure as soon as he hits level 3. This lets him either get kills or push the lane in and have easy access to tower plates.
- His higher mobility makes him very difficult to lock down in a teamfight. He can skirt around a skirmish while chipping away at the enemy with his Piercing Light and Culling. This makes it very annoying to play into him as he is capable of wasting the enemy’s CC.
- Lucian can close out games extremely fast. He hits his power spikes much quicker than most traditional ADCs. Thereby giving him a lot of agency and teamfight prowess in the early to Mid Game mark.
Cons:
- Lucian is a short-ranged ADC which is why he is such a high-risk pick in Riot’s MOBA . His shorter range can often lead him to trouble by forcing him to come within range of the enemy frontline. Making it significantly easier for them to engage on him if they have point-and-click CC.
- Lower range also makes him much harder to master. While it doesn’t make much dedication to pick him up, mastering his kit and how to position with him in a fight will take a lot of dedication.
- Unlike hyper-carries, Lucian falls off petty hard in the later stages of the game. He is not as effective against tanks that build a lot of armor, and his lack of range makes it exceedingly difficult for him to have an impact in the Late Game.
How to play Lucian: Tips and Tricks for League of Legends Season 14

Early Game:
- The Early Game plan with Lucian will be to get Gold leads as soon as possible. The faster you get Lucian’s core build done, the easier will skirmishes get. As Lucian hits his power spikes relatively early, try to be aggressive in lane and look to either secure kills or tower plates.
- Always try to poke out the enemy Bot Lane when they come to CS. Piercing Light is a great tool to harass the enemy ADC when they try to walk up. So don’t be afraid to have aggressive trades in lane when the game starts.
- Try to all in on the enemy bot lane when you hit level 3. If you are duo-ing with an engage support like Leona or Rell, you will have a very high kill presence. At level 3 you will have a very high chance to get a kill or blow the enemy bot’s Summoner Spells.
Mid Game:
- The Mid Game is when Lucian is at his most powerful. Irrespective of the composition you are up against, Lucian’s kit and core build will let you melt through the enemy team on he hits a power spike.
- Rotate to the Mid Lane and threaten damage on the enemy tower. This will force the enemy to react to your push leaving your team more room to take down neutral objectives. Be a bit aggressive with your playstyle at this stage, and look for fights around the Drake and Baron pit.
- Lucian has a good deal of burst damage in the Mid Game. He can delete squishy targets in the blink of an eye. So make sure you are focusing most of your DPS on the enemy backline. His Relentless Pursuit will let him weave in and out of a skirmish chunking away at the enemy health bar.
Late Game:
- Lucian’s impact falls off in the Late Game because of his shorter range. However, he continues to have a significant amount of burst and consistent DPS. So, your main goal in the Late Game will be to kite around a fight while avoiding all CC that comes your way.
- Use your Culling proactively. Lucian’s ultimate should be doing a lot of damage at this point. So if you find a target that you can chip out from a screen away even before the fight starts, don’t hesitate to pull the trigger.
- Lucian is great at taking neutral objectives. So force a Baron or an Elder Dragon take to make the enemy react to this. This can at times throw them off what they want to do.
