It seems that Sony’s Wolverine might be the last PlayStation exclusive to be released on the PC platform. In the recent decade of Console gaming, two of the biggest players saw a significant shift in their strategy, with Xbox going all-in on platform digital stores and Sony bringing games to PC.
According to a well-known industry insider, Jason Schreier, Sony is likely to revise its strategy for future releases outside PlayStation hardware. The source of this speculation comes from a discussion on the Triple Click podcast.
Other well-known online names, such as NatetheHate and SneakersOS, also support the claim in their own words about a shift coming in Sony’s strategy soon. Mind you, there have been no official announcements as of yet. The last words we ever heard from Sony’s higher-ups were in support of PC ports in the future.
Sony is not satisfied with their PC run
Sony originally adapted the strategy to port their exclusives to PC back in 2020 when the PlayStation 5 console was still fresh on everyone’s minds. A lot of loyal fans were in direct opposition to this decision, claiming that it would devalue the brand identity.
The company has so far made quite the impression with their ports on PC, as each release is always honored with a decent amount of player counts on the Steam platform, signifying that there is a market for PlayStation games on other platforms.

According to Jason Schreier, Sony will keep bringing their live-service game lineups, such as Helldivers, to PC, for the sole reason that they thrive on massive player counts at every living moment.
But they might completely move away from releasing single-player exclusives such as the upcoming God of War trilogy Remake on PC. He believes that PlayStation might not have had much of an amazing run out of the PC releases, even though from the outside it seems to be doing well.
Most Sony fans were never okay with PC ports
It is no new knowledge that most of the PlayStation fans were heavily opposed to the prospects of Sony games releasing on other platforms, as it would lead to devaluation of the hardware. After this news a lot of social media accounts took to remind how the PS5 has always been at the center of ‘no games’ joke.
Console wars were starting to look like a thing of the past, but the underlying grudge between players of each platforms taking a dump on each other never stopped. This new discussion seems to have added
Regardless of whatever may be the case, we have no way of ascertaining if any of this is true yet, and will likely have to wait for an official word from Sony execs themselves. There will be a lot to unpack in future with hardware market shifting due to the problem with memory chips.
Furthermore major changes are occuring on the competitor side of Sony with Phil Spencer finally stepping down from being the head of Xbox. Sony will certainluy be carefully observing the developments and come to a descision which is best for PlayStation fans.
