In Legends Z-A, you will find a lot of Shiny-locked Pokemon that you will not be able to get your hands on in the usual means. This is in line with how previous Pokemon games have worked, and there will be a lot of Shiny-locked Pokemon, which will be absolutely impossible to get for now, as the RPG is yet to get a HOME connectivity.
So if you are looking to get your hands on all the Shiny Pokemon in Legends Z-A then the guide below will go over a couple of things that you might want to keep in mind.
All Shiny-locked Pokemon in Legends Z-A
1) Legendary Pokemon
All Legendary Pokemon in Z-A are Shiny-locked. Here is a list of the Legendaries that you will find in the game:
- Xerneas
- Yveltal
- Zygarde
- Mewtwo
Zygarde is the main legendary in Z-A, and this Pokemon, along with the rest of the Legendaries, can, for now, be only obtained in their normal colors. Their Shiny versions will only be available if Game Freak releases them as part of their special event or gift code in the future.
However, there are other illegitimate ways of getting your hands on a Shiny Legendary, through hacks. But that is not something that we will recommend that you try out.

2) Mythical Pokemon
All Mythical Pokemon are also Shiny-Locked in Legends Z-A, so you will only be able to get your hands on a Shiny variant of the following monsters if the developers release an event or a promo in the future.:
- Diancie
- Volcanion
- Hoopa
3) Starter Pokemon
Starter Pokemon are also Shiny-locked, but only if they are picked as your starter in Legends Z-A. So you will be able to hunt for the starter Shiny Pokemon by exploring the Wild and hoping that you come across one. Here are the three starters in the game:
- Chikorita
- Tepig
- Totodile
Legends Z-A has no breeding system, and you cannot save-scum for the ideal reset, as the RPG comes with a permanent auto-save feature. So the best bet of getting a Starter-Shiny, or the Shiny variant of any regular Pokemon by exploring every corner of the map.
4) Gift Pokemon
Any Pokemon that you get as a gidft ot a reward from completing side content will also be Shiny-locked. So Pokemon like Chespin, Froakie, and Fennekin, which are the Kalos starters that you get as a reward, will be Shiny-locked. You will, however, get to obtain the Shiny versions of them when exploring the wild.
How to get a guaranteed Shiny in Pokemon Legends Z-A

Pretty early on in your journey in Z-A, you will be able to get your hands on a guaranteed Shiny Mareep near Wild Zone 1. The Pokemon is a part of an early-game side quest, and you can then evolve the Mareep into a Shiny Flaafy and then a Shiny Ampharos
Shiny Charm improves Shiny odds in Legends Z-A

Like in previous Pokemon entries, you will be able to get your hands on a Shiny Charm to improve your odds of finding a Shiny Pokemon in the Wild. The Shiny Charm is obtained as a reward for completing Mable’s research.
The research progress will be made available to you very early on, and you will be able to obtain gifts from it by just catching Pokemon and taking them on in battles.
Head to the Mable’s Research guide section in the menu to get to know about all the objectives.
