Mobile gacha games have almost taken over MMOs as one of the highest-grossing online genres to look forward to every year. But there are still some developers fighting to keep the long-running history of MMORPGs relevant.
We have tried to list a few MMOs below that you should be looking forward to in the future if you are a fan of the genre and crave multiplayer online games.
Most Anticipated MMO RPGs
Chrono Odyssey

Chrono Odyssey had caught our attention as soon as we saw the beautiful trailers for the game, which makes it seem visually on par with some of the best AAA titles around. The game is being developed by a dedicated studio of the same name and will be published under the South Korean studio, Kakao Games Corp.
While there are no fixed dates for when the MMO will have a release window, it has been confirmed to release on almost all the major modern platforms. Chrono Odyssey will feature a seamless open world, including multiple different types of Biomes, and the developers claim to allow ‘unrestricted exploration’.
Soulframe

Developer Digital Extremes gave the world one of the best MMOs in existence, Warframe, which still stands strong as one of the best thrid person massive multiplayer action-RPGs. Responsible for influencing movement-focused MMOs and shooters.
We have already been teased by developers about what the future holds, and it looks amazing. Soulframe is going to be the next big thing that we get to see from Digital Extremes. Although there are no release dates yet, the previews looked really beautiful.
Unlike Warframe, this is a title that is going to be set in a new kind of open world that has more medieval elements to the art and design as opposed to sci-fi.
ArchArge Chronicles

South Korean MMO developers and publishers have been dominating the landscape for more than a decade now. They took the foundations and ideas that were imparted through some of the greatest MMOs of past years and modernised them to churn out games frequently.
One of them is the infamous Kakao Games, which has under its belt the publishing rights to several high-profile MMORPGs. They are now set to deliver to the Western audiences the newest entry in the ArcheAge MMO, ArcheAge Chronicles, which was previously titled ArcheAge 2.
There is no release date for this title yet, but fans of the genre might want to keep their eyes peeled because the world of Auroria looks vast and enticing.
Star Citizen

This one is half a meme entry because we all know that the game is never going to come out. However, we can’t help but feel attracted to the vast scope of this ambitious title. Star Citizen is a multiplayer online space exploration game that has been under development since as early as 2012.
It started off as a Kickstarter campaign that was conceived by director Chris Roberts. In 2025, he said that there is still a while before everyone will get their hands on the game, but the single-player spinoff, Squadron 42, is going to get a release window of 2026.
We cannot dismiss the game just yet because, unlike other such games that never come out, Star Citizen has time and time again proved to people that it’s not a scam and the lengthy development time is non-negotiable.
Horizon Steel Frontiers

NCSoft is a developer that almost everyone in the MMO community recognizes, as they are behind publishing some of the well-known and popular titles in the genre. Towards the latter half of 2025, the developer decided to surprise everyone by revealing their newest venture, which looked surprisingly similar to a Sony title.
The company teamed up with one of the largest Console game publishers to create an open-world MMO based on Horizon Zero Dawn. So far from what we have seen of Horizon Steel Frontiers, it looks like it is going to be a very unique experience as opposed to the original console game.
The only downside of this announcement is that the game is reportedly being worked on with an exclusive mobile environment in mind.
Aion 2

We have already displayed enough of how dominant NCSoft is as a publisher in the MMO world at present. So here’s another title that is set to launch globally somewhere around the latter part of this year or beyond, from the same publisher.
Aion 2 is a title that already saw its launch in countries such as Taiwan and South Korea in 2025, and has garnered lots of popularity in the meantime. There’s a complete section of dev vlog on the title’s website that details the whole roadmap for the game, which plans to come with season 2 already in mind for global release.
As you have guessed by the name, the title is a spiritual successor to the previous Aion game, from which it takes several inspirations, while also implementing modern age MMO content.
Riot’s MMO

Riot’s MMO has been on the back of everyone’s mind for a long time now, ever since it was announced. This is a title that seeks to realize the world of Runeterra, which is also the basis for the world-famous MOBA, League of Legends.
Riot has been heavily invested in expanding the world of League of Legends, and has already progressed towards that goal with varying degrees of success. Their most recent venture is the fighting game spin-off, 2XKO.
The only issue with Riot MMO is that we do not know when it will see the light of day. But the game does get brought up once in a while during interviews and dev vlogs, only to assure that it’s still not shelved.
