The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion was released back in 2006, and quickly grew to become one of the most popular RPGs to date. In a rather surprise announcement, Bethesda Game Studios (in collaboration with Virtuous Studios) announced a full-fledged remake of the classic title, which is out now for all major platforms – including the PC.
As such, given that it is built on top of the often controversial Unreal Engine 5, players should expect middling levels of performance across all hardware configs. There do exist a handful of settings that can be tweaked to improve performance though.
These settings can be found discussed below.

- Window Mode: Fullscreen; can switch to windowed if you wish to multi-task
- Display Resolution: 1920×1080; swap to your display’s native resolution
- V-Sync: Off; always keep disabled
- Frame Rate Limit: Uncapped, might be worth capping to 60 for handheld PCs
- Show FPS: Off
- Show VRAM: Off
- Brightness Intensity: 0; user preference
- FOV First Person: 75; user preference
- FOV 3rd Person: 75; user preference
- Motion Blur: Off; best to keep disabled
- Screen Space Reflections: On; can be disabled to boost performance
Quality
- Quality Level: High
- View Distance Quality: Medium
- Effects Quality: Low
- Foliage Quality: Low
- Shadow Quality: Low
- Global Illumination Quality: Low
- Texture Quality: high, drop down to Low or Medium if you have 8 GB or less of VRAM
- Reflection Quality: Low
- Post-Processing Quality: Low

- Lumen Hardware RT: Off; tanks FPS when enabled
- Lumen Software RT Quality: Low
Advanced
- Anti-Aliasing: TSR/Disabled
- Upscaling Technique: DLSS/FSR/XeSS; DLSS is only applicable for Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs
- Sharpness: 2; user preference
- Frame Generation: Off; keep to disabled to avoid latency and ghosting
- Upscaling Mode: Balanced; can be lowered to Performance or Ultra Performance if needed
With a RTX 3050, these settings should net you 60 FPS at a 1080p resolution. Keep in mind that there will be dips to the 30s from time to time – depending on the intensity of the combat and visual effects. Expect a few crashes here and there until the developers release a patch.
