Nintendo Switch 2 leak suggests console could be as powerful as Xbox Series S

New leaks surrounding Nintendo Switch 2 suggest that the upcoming console might be as powerful as the Xbox Series S.

Famiboards, a popular forum where everything related to Nintendo or its games is discussed, has been keeping a close eye on Nintendo’s activities. This includes tracking shipment and customs data between NVIDIA and other companies that are associated with the manufacturing of Nintendo Switch 2.

What they have found from the shipment listings is that the retail units of the handheld console will have 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage, which is at UFS 3.1 speeds.

It’s unclear if the RAM modules are LPDDR5 or LPDDR5X but they will be divided into two 6 GB slots. If the leaks and rumors turn out to be true, it would be a significant upgrade from the current lineup of Nintendo Switch consoles.

Although the leaked specs are too low for comparison but if we had to, the Nintendo Switch 2 could prove to be as powerful as the Xbox Series S.

The leaked spec sheet also went on to detail the custom SoC within the handheld which is expected to possess 1536 CUDA cores, 12 RT cores and 48 Tensor cores – making it quite the capable machine. Additionally, the die is to be based off the Ampere architecture, with certain features backported from the Ada generation.

Coupled with access to DLSS, an eight-core ARM A78C CPU and a ‘file decompression engine’, the Nintendo Switch 2 could quite easily trounce even the PS4 Pro in most cases.

The Xbox Series S only comes with 10 GB RAM. Considering the new Nintendo Switch 2 leak, it will have two extra GBs of RAM, which is great news for third-party developers. This will be a welcoming change as Nintendo fans will get to play more Switch-ported games, as it opens the door to that opportunity which is impossible with the current gen of their handheld consoles.

Such upgraded specs also mean an in-built microphone for the Nintendo Switch 2, and who knows, attached controllers as well?
