AI generated content has taken the world by storm as of late, for better or worse. Simply browsing through the interwebs will bombard you with a plethora of AI generated adverts and videos, many of which appear to be unassumingly harmless.
Of the many YouTube channels peddling AI generated shorts and long form videos, ‘Bandar Apna Dost’ has managed to rack up (allegedly) over $4.25 million. This Indian origin account usually comes with the same metronome for its content mill, amidst increasing memory shortages.
‘Bandar Apna Dost’ YouTube Channel Surges in Popularity as RAM Prices Keep Increasing to Astronomical Levels

Indian origin YouTube channel ‘Bandar Apna Dost’ has seen a massive surge in popularity in the past few months, amassing a large number of views and revenue in the process.
The videos pumped out by the channel seem to be entirely AI generated, featuring the titular ‘Bandar’ (monkey) in a variety of strange scenarios. Low effort and recycled, brainrot content aside, the videos appear to be mostly harmless and not malicious in any way, which is more than what you can say about most propaganda fueled videos that are being pumped out on a daily basis elsewhere.
Regardless, AI slop is still AI slop. With the increased demand for AI powered solutions and services, industry giants were quick to abandon consumers for greener (if not temporary) pastures, as they moved on to datacenters instead.
We’ve seen Micron kill off its Crucial brand of consumer memory and storage modules in an attempt to cater to these AI datacenters, in a move that can only be described as corporate greed.
This has resulted in an acute memory and storage shortage across the world, which was accompanied by a massive bump up in RAM prices, even across last-gen DDR4 variants.
It does make you wonder though, if sustaining these kinds of AI generated content is really worth it at all, at the cost of quadrupling memory prices for the average consumer.
AI generated content (atleast in this scale and use) is a pointless affair, and we’d be a whole lot better without them.
