Where Winds Meet is finally out, after months of intense anticipation. The open world Wuxia game is built on top of the in house Messiah Engine, which is supposedly well optimized, making it run across a wide range of devices, including mobiles (at least on the CN version).
This makes it a somewhat decent fit for Valve’s Steam Deck handheld console, even if the experience can be a bit wonky at times. We’ll be discussing the best Steam Deck settings for Where Winds Meet, along with some notes on expected performance below.

Steam Deck Specific Settings
Use the following Steam Deck specific combination of settings for a better experience:
- Frame Rate Limit: 60 or 90 FPS
- TDP: 15 W
- Battery Drain: 25 W
With these settings, expect around 2 hours of gameplay on the Steam Deck OLED, and half (around an hour) on the Steam Deck LCD.
As far as performance is concerned, it is more of a mixed bag. While Where Winds Meet can most certainly hit an easy 30+ FPS in gameplay, it is very erratic, and the game as a whole is subject to massive frame rate drops. Perhaps a patch or two will address the issue.
If you keep running into issues while trying to run the game, try switching to the Proton Experimental translation layer.
