Microsoft cuts employee library and newspaper access in favor of “AI experiences”

After approximately 15,000 job cuts thanks to AI, Microsoft or Mircroslop (depends on what you wish to term it these days) has now canceled library and newspaper access for their employees. This was first reported by Verge’s Tom Warren, who states that the tech giant will be focusing more on AI-based learning, which is why they have been rolling back the services since November 2025.

The report quotes an email from Microsoft’s vendor management team, which says.

“This correspondence serves as official notification that Microsoft will not renew any existing contracts upon their respective expiration dates.”

Following this, there has been news that the company had also ended its partnership with Strategic News Service, who were a publisher that supplied global reports to Microsoft’s employees.

In a message to the Microsoft employees, Strategic News Services stated,

“Microsoft has just released an automated announcement that all library contracts, of which the SNS Global Report is perhaps the most strategic for your own use, are to be turned off.”

The Verge report further states that the Microsoft staff no longer have access to other business publication features like The Information or any other business books from the Microsoft Library.

So why is Microsoft suddenly cancelling employee subscriptions?

CEO Satya Nadella is apparently leading this transition into a more AI-focused work ethic in the company. He has also reportedly given an ultimatum to senior executives to either adopt the strategy or leave the firm altogether.

It will be interesting to see how these changes affect the internal workings at Microsoft in the coming months and if there will be another set of mass layofdf under Nadella’s leadership.
