One of the biggest reveals at last year’s Game Awards is about to be released, but we still know nothing about it yet. Geoff Keighley’s award show is a yearly affair that brings together the whole gaming community in all sorts of funny discussions.
The last announcement of each of these award shows is always a major one, and the game that was revealed in 2025’s show was something that was marred with controversy. The internet was filled with mixed reactions to Wildlight Entertainment’s Highguard.
This is a game that is being developed by the people behind Apex Legends as well as the Titanfall series, so it surely has big boots to fill. Just that no one looking at the Game Awards was expecting a multiplayer live service shooter to be an important announcement.
What is Highguard, and when is it releasing?
Highguard is designed to be a raid shooter with PvP systems. Players will be stepping into the shoes of Warden,s who are powerful gunslingers with abilities. Each team will have to fight for the Shieldbreaker before moving into the enemy base and capturing it.
The CEO of Wildlight Entertainment, Dusty Welch, had previously made boastful remarks about their rich roster of developers. He claimed that the studio was seeking to create a new multiplayer shooter on par with the ‘scale’ and ‘quality’ of some of gaming’s greatest, such as Call of Duty and Apex Legends.
“We created Wildlight because we wanted a game studio where design leads and new games can be built without compromise. Our time on Apex Legends and Titanfall taught us a lot about what it takes to build and sustain a successful franchise.” Added the co-founder of the studio, Chad Grenier.

Radio silence from the game’s social media accounts
This all sounded like big news for the fans of competitive shooters. The game was revealed and confirmed by Geoff Keighley to have a January 26 launch window, which is pretty soon and well planned as well.
But that’s exactly where our problem starts, because we have literally not seen anything beyond the initial reveal, and now it’s only two weeks away from being playable. Almost all the social media accounts for Highguard have made no new posts beyond the original trailer.
This includes the game’s official YouTube channel, which has done no marketing for the in-game content of the title. People looking forward to the Highguard will just have to assume that the game will just drop out of nowhere on the confirmed date.
The Twitter/X account for Highguard only has a few posts that were made back during the game’s reveal, but it still has over 6000 followers. The quote replies to some of the posts have people speculating on why the account is filled with radio silence.
People are now waiting to see what eventually culminates on the fated day the game drops. Meanwhile, some Twitter/X accounts have been questioning the fact how this game made it into Geoff Keighley’s award show, since the radio silence.
