By now, we all know that one of the most influential billionaires in Deadlock is a megalomaniac who tried to have his own child murdered. But the dark history of Fairfaxes doesn’t just end there.
The more we learn, the more we find that things just keep getting worse for characters such as Arin Fairfax, or as we know them with their new name, Pocket. Aside from escaping a near-death assassination experience, Pocket also escaped a really toxic engagement.
Before things turned out the way they are now, the heir to Fairfax’s throne was set to marry into American royalty. Their bride was Mina Ha, a spoiled elite-class girl who was fortunate enough to be born with a silver spoon in her mouth.
Mina loathes Pocket for their ruined marriage
Initially, she was happy with the marriage proposal, considering the rich prospects. But it all changed after the attempt on Arin’s life. While most of Pocket’s acquaintances, such as Dynamo, mourned his death, their fianceé’s attitude towards this news was very different.
Mina was overcome with anger, and not because of her fiancé’s death, but because of the future she was robbed of. And she pinned all of the blame on the one who was assassinated.
From a very young age, Mina Ha was pampered to no end. Wealthy lifestyle, an education from one of the most prestigious institutions, she had it all. Arin’s death was the first time she was robbed of a privileged future.
So it’s not surprising that seeing Arin running around in the streets of Cursed Apple under the disguise of Pocket was the tipping for her. In reality, Mina never cared for their union; all she cared for was her name to be associated with the Fairfaxes.
Turning into a vampire was like a backup plan for Mina
After that failed, Mina’s tantrums began anew. Her parents had to quickly figure out a new plan, and then it clicked. With just the cost of a small fortune, they were able to negotiate a deal with someone from New York’s society of vampires.
Someone who was willing to turn Mina into a Vampire. She thought of this as an acceptable plan B, considering the prospects of eternal youth and immortality. Mina now has a new mission in her life, which involves climbing up to the ranks of Viscount in the vampire society.
This is what has motivated her to participate in the ritual. Alongside making sure that Pocket is completely obliterated if they ever cross paths.
