Much like the previous entries Pokemon Legends Z-A also comes with a roster of Shiny Pokemon that you will be able to get your hands on as you explore Lumiose City. While Shiny Pokemon do not come with an increased stat pool over their basic counterparts, they do come with a different color palette and a sufficient amount of bragging rights.
However, catching a Shiny variant of every Pokemon in this RPG is not easy. Moreover, there are also certain Pokemon that, like the legendaries, are Shiny-locked, and you will also get a Shiny Mareep as part of a side quest, so you won’t have to go out searching for one.
Hence, if you are looking to get your hands on each of the Shiny Pokemon in Legends Z-A, then the guide below will help you out.

How to hunt for Shiny Pokemon in Legends Z-A

It’s important to keep in mind that, apart from the Mareep, the shiny versions of all other Pokemon appear randomly in the wild. Now keeping that in mind, here are the most important things that you want to keep in mind when hunting for them in Legends Z-A:
1) Shiny Odds
When hunting for shinies, the first thing that you will want to keep in mind are the odds:
- Full Odds : 1/4096
- Shiny Charm Odds: 4/4096 (You obtain the Shiny Charm as a reward for completing Mable’s research.)
- The Shiny odds for all Fossils will always be Full Odds.
2) Look for Shiny Indicators
Legends Z-A now has new Shiny Indicator as well as some older ones which will inform you if there is a shiny nearby. Here is a list of some of the indications that you will want to look out for:
- A visible alternate color palette.
- A shiny sound will playy.
- Pokemon will have a style shiny aura around them.
- There will be a proximity shimmering noise if you are near a shiny Pokemon.
3) Shinies do not despawn
Shiny Pokemon in Legends Z-A no longer desapawn and are going to be persistent. They will be locked into their slot until they are caught, defeated, and even scared away.
4) You can save upto 10 Shiny Pokemon at once
You can now save upto 10 Shiny Pokemon at once in Legends Z-A. So if you see another shiny pop up, you can catch it without deleting an existing one. However, if you don’t catch the 11th shiny, then the 1st shiny will be deleted and the 11th will be put to 10th. But there are some exceptions to this rule.
5) Some Shiny will need certain conditions to spawn
If a Pokemon needs certain conditions to spawn, then its Shiny variant will need the same conditions to appear as well. So even if you are going to the Wild Zones and exploring every inch of it, you are likley not going to spawn the snify if you do not meet the conditions.
Also do keep in mind that if a spawn slot is take up by a Shiny Pokemon, then that very slot will not attempt to roll a shiny. This can be useful when you are looking to delay replacing it with the targe shiny that you are looking for. However, you will have to be ok with deleting some of the first few shiny slots.
6) There are three primary ways of force spawning Shiny Pokemon
No when it comes to hunting shinies there are three main ways of spawning them in Pokemon Legends Z-A:
| Shiny Spawn Method | Description |
|---|---|
| The Running Method | This method is where you keep running away from your target Pokemon till it despawns. Run back to spawn them again and keep repeating it till the Shiny variany finally appears. You also use some bins as benchmarks in Wild Zones to mark it as the despawn point. This mothod is usefull when you are going for Pokemon that are on rooftops or on a long stretch of road. |
| The Bench Method | If there is bench near your target Pokemon you can use it to skip time to constantly desapwn and spawn the Pokemon that is within range so that you finally spawn the shiny. |
| The Fast Travel Method | If your target Pokemon is near a Fast Travel point, you can keep fast traveling there to keep despawning and respawning all nearby Pokemon. It’s very similar to the Bench method, so you can keep doing it till the Shiny variant appears. |
Note: There is also an AFK method that you can try, however, that is only viable in Wild Zone 3. So we are not going to be talking about it here.
