The Past is the Future is a series of side quests in Wuthering Waves containing an Introduction, a Continued, as well as an Epilogue. The quest is given to you by Shixia, who will ask you to help her find the gifts that are left behind by her elder sister.
It’s one of the longer side missions in the RPG, however, there is a fair amount of Union EXP, Astrite, and Shell Credits that can be obtained from it.
So if you are struggling to raise your Union Level, side missions like these do really come in handy.

How to start The Past is the Future in Wuthering Waves
To start The Paast is the Future you will be required to make your way to the “Big Tree” which is located to the eastern side of Jinzhou.
Here you will find the NPC Shixia, and after interacting with her, she will ask you to find the gifts that her sister left behind with the help of her dog Pudding.
Completing The Past is the Future: Introduction in Wuthering Waves
Here are some steps that you will need to complete in order to round out the first part of The Past is the Future
Step 1: Use the Sensor and go through the waterfall
Aftr interacting with Shixia and starting the quest, you will need to bring up your Utility menu to use the Sensor. However, you will not find any gift in the areaa, instead, Shixia will then ask you to go through the waterfall.
Head in and you will find the NPC standing under a tree with Pudding.
Step 2: Follow Pudding to Dig up chests
The next part of the mission will have you follow Pudding around. You will notice dig spots along the trail, so interact with them till you find the first gift which is an old Report Card.
This was from Shixia’s first exam as a child.
Step 3: Make Milky Fish Soup or Jinzhou Skewers
After interacting with Shixia, head to the spot where there is a cooking stove and two chairs. The quest-giver will ask you to rest for the day, and you have the option to make one of the following items:
- Jinzhou Skewers: Raw Meat x2 and Lemongrass x1
- Milky Fish Soup: Fish x1, Angelica x1 and Perilla x1
When the food is done, Shixia will talk about her stories from when she was a child.
Step 4: Use the Tacetite Fulminate to break a Fissured Ledge
Head to the next location and Shixia will ask you to get Pudding’s help in tracking down the next gift spots. So follow Pudding, till you reach a Fissured Ledge. Use the Tacetite Fulminate nearby to break it open.
Step 5: Solve the riddle
Now make your way to the next marker, you will have to climb a few rocks to get there. This is the third tree location the Shixia talked about and you will arrive at a heart-shaped pond.
You will find a letter here with a riddle in it. You won’t have to do much to solve it, just make your way to the marked spot and the answer will become apparent to the Rover.
The location for the next treasure will be revealed, so head there and dig up the spot.
Step 6: Make your way to the final location
To find the third gift you will have to climb up a fair bit. Make sure to manage your stamina properly during the ascent. Once you reach the spot which is the fourth tree, Shixia will then ask you to take her to the West Summit Mountain.
Interact with her once you reach the place and this will conclude The Past is the Future: Introduction in Wuthering Waves.
As a reward, you will gain the following items:
- 1x Advanced Resonance Potion
- 1x Advanced Energy Core
- 8,000x Shell Credits
Completing The Past is the Future: Continued in Wuthering Waves
After the first part of the quest is done, wait for one in-game day and then teleport to Lake Heights Resonance Beacon. Now take the road on the left to find Shixia in the small camp. Interact with her to start the second part of the questline. The second part of the mission only has one step:
Make your way up West Hill
The first step of the mission is pretty simple. Just make your way up up the mountain with the help of the grappler. Make sure you are using your stamina meter wisely, if you are running low, you can always use the wooden planks that are protruding by the sides of the mountain to rest and regain your stamina.
Once you reach the top of West Hill, Shixia will be waiting for you there. Talk to her and open the box that is left by Shiyu.
Exhaust her dialog options and you will have completed The Past is the Future: Continued in Wuthering Waves. You will get the following rewards for it:
- 500x Union EXP
- 40x Astrite
- 1x Advanced Resonance Potion
- 1x Advanced Energy Core
- 10,000x Shell Credits
Completing The Past is the Future: Epilogue in Wuthering Waves
For the final part of the quest line, make your way back to where you found Shixia for the first time and started The Past is the Future quest. Interact with her and burn through her dialogues to round it out.
You will receive the following for quest completion:
- 1x Jinzhou Sunrise Photo
