Well Deadlock’s Summoning Ritual is host to some of the most colorful characters you will come across in the Cursed Apple. From a self-proclaimed Rat King to an animated Gargoyle, you now have Central Park’s very own Pigeon Lady.
But Baba is considered to be more than just an old lady who feeds spirit pigeons. She is hailed as an institution and an integral part of New York’s Lore which often paints her as the leader of the Soho Coven.
Now when it comes to her motivations in seeking out the Patrons, there really doesn’t seem to be any. The only reason that Baba has taken to the streets of the Cursed Apple is because of her utter dislike for tourists and how they are tearing apart Manhattan in pursuit of power.
Baba likes playing Bunko
So this is not something that sits well with her, and while the spry old hag has lived an incredible life, participating in the Ritual makes her feel like she is reliving her youth again.
And although she is a powerful witch of the Soho Coven, Baba always displays tenderness to those in need. She is very protective of New York, which gives root to the absolute distrust that she has for outsiders.
And much like any old lady of New York, she is rude, illtempered and loves spending time quilting and playing Bunko which is also what her weapon is named after.
Billy thinks highly of Baba
Because of arthritis she has difficulty walking, which is why she employs the aid of the rusted green Central Park bench. The metallic chicken feet propels her around, while Preston, the fat pigeon aids in other things. Now Preston may or may not have been a person before, and the bench according to Baba sometimes has a mind of its own.
Because of how old she is, the New York crone has witnessed the first Maelstrom event and considers the second one to be her last. She has a fair bit of esoteric knowledge in all thing interplanar, which is why she is pretty familiar with the Patrons and knows the Doorman’s true nature.
Some fun facts: Baba hates a woman named Mildred, she considers her to be talentless, and goes as far as to wish that she rots in hell. Even the Soul Urn tells her that Mildred would be quite jealous of her. Baba is also friends with Solomon, and Billy looks up to her because of her hate for the government, and how she once threw a brick at the mayor.
